چکیده
TS: trichodysplasia spinulosa TSPyV: trichodysplasia spinulosa polyomavirus INTRODUCTION Solid organ transplant patients are susceptible to rare and unusual dermatoses as a result of their chronic immunosuppression. Trichodysplasia spinulosa (TS) is one such rare clinical entity observed predominantly in immunosuppressed patients with a history of either solid organ transplantation on immunosuppressive therapy or hematologic malignancies treated with chemotherapy. Herein we present 2 cases of TS that were successfully treated with compounded topical cidofovir.

IMPORTANCE The cause of follicular spicules in multiple myeloma (MM) is not known. OBSERVATIONS We present a case of follicular spicules in a patient with MM, which is very reminiscent of trichodysplasia spinulosa caused by a polyomavirus. No trichodysplasia spinulosa-associated polyomavirus could be isolated from the skin lesions; however, the spicules were positive for Merkel cell carcinoma...
متن کاملDiscovery of a New Human Polyomavirus Associated with Trichodysplasia Spinulosa in an Immunocompromized Patient
The Polyomaviridae constitute a family of small DNA viruses infecting a variety of hosts. In humans, polyomaviruses can cause infections of the central nervous system, urinary tract, skin, and possibly the respiratory tract. Here we report the identification of a new human polyomavirus in plucked facial spines of a heart transplant patient with trichodysplasia spinulosa, a rare skin disease exc...

TS: trichodysplasia spinulosa TSPyV: TS-associated polyoma virus INTRODUCTION Trichodysplasia spinulosa (TS) is a recently described rare disease of immunosuppressed patients characterized by folliculocentric papules and keratin spicules. The condition is highly associated with the TS-associated polyomavirus (TSPyV); however, the causal mechanism remains undiscovered. Currently, there is a dear...

BACKGROUND Viral-associated trichodysplasia of immunosuppression is a rare cutaneous eruption that is characterized by follicularly based shiny papules and alopecia with characteristic histopathologic findings of abnormally anagen follicules with excessive inner root sheath differentiation. Prior reports have described the histopathologic characteristics on vertical sections; however, to our kn...
